A WEB-­BASED USER PARTICIPATION TOOL FOR RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

Abstract

The thesis proposed to create spatial and communal qualities of group form architecture via a web based user participation tool. This custom tool allows for user to customize their dwelling within the formal and spatial conditions set up by the planner and designer of the program. Multiple users can simultaneously design houses on the same site, encouraging various forms of spatial negotiation and interaction.

The author hopes that this will give potential dwellers power to design their own dwelling and the communal space of the neighborhood, which may give greater satisfaction over the outcome and encourage a sense of belonging to the place.
