Abstract: The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the effects of having an international literature festival in Asia. This paper will look at international and regional transportation trends within Asia and how that is evolving given the changing use of technology affecting the availability of transportation choices and how consumers changing awareness of environmental impacts has changed travel patterns of those travelling to international festivals. This will be discussed with reference to specific literature festivals which have been happening regularly around the region, in particular the Jaipur International Literary Festival in Jaipur, India and the International Ubud Writers & Readers Festival in Bali, Indonesia. This dissertation will conclude by recommending some best practices in the execution of these Literary Festivals drawing from the analysis of the two case studies to implement a Literary Festival with the greatest social and academic benefits while minimizing the environmental costs.
