dc.description.abstract | The current identity of Bras Basah.Bugis as a manifestation of the Renaissance City discourse requires a substantial rethinking of our understanding of the district to the government’s vision. While the objective of the Renaissance City Plan is to prepare Singapore for the creative economy by molding specific districts into an urban magnet for global creative talents, it is necessary to question the appropriateness of the identities enforced on these districts. This paper aims to examine the arts and entertainment space in Bras Basah.Bugis from a bottom-up approach and argue that Bras Basah.Bugis is being produced and legitimised as a creative, arts and cultural space by the state through state rhetoric and urban plans. | |
