SALUTOGENESIS IN SENIOR-FRIENDLY ACTION PLAN

Abstract

This study seeks to examine the current elderly-centric estates and lifestyle of seniors in Singapore and to propose recommendation to evoke healthy stimulant in the surrounding environment. Over the years, the government has been actively implementing senior-friendly policies and initiatives to cater to elderly needs. Overseas, there have been studies on the theory of salutogenesis incorporated in health promotion that enhances the adaptability for senior recipients. Therefore, how can the theory of salutogenesis play a part in Singapore’s senior-friendly policies for seniors to achieve successful ageing? This study adopts both qualitative and quantitative approaches in reviewing two case studies in Kreta Ayer and Marine Terrace that encompasses different government policies and senior-friendly implementations. The research review that the environment plays a part in senior behavior and health through different observation on site, gender in seniors also acts differently in different context. They can get manipulated in different settings and assistance to adopt the change. Hence, two recommendations are being put forward in this study to enhance overall contribution and environmental stimulation can be incorporated to work towards salutogenesis in seniors. Hence, reducing the tendency to fall ill and find a purposeful life to achieve the ultimate quality of life.
