dc.description.abstract | Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a major part of the construction industry’s movement to become digitalised in the modern world. Governments around the world are actively pushing for the adoption of BIM and related software to advance their construction sectors, so that they can achieve higher levels of efficiency and relevancy in a fast-moving world. However, cost issues are still inevitable due to the high volume of information exchanged between the various parties and stakeholders involved within the construction projects. This results in ineffective cost management as the cost management personnel may not be able to cope with the influx of information and thus cannot make the right decisions or rectifications when required. This paper explores the capabilities of BIM and how it can aid in cost management of the construction industry. It investigates the documented uses and simulations of utilising BIM in construction projects and seeks understanding on the effectiveness and potential of BIM through a systematic review. The results from the findings and evaluations made in this study show that the use of BIM is effective in preventing cost management issues, directly or indirectly. To maximise the benefits, there are various barriers that must be overcome by the construction industry. Recommendations were made for the construction industry and future researchers regarding the adoption of BIM and direction of study, respectively. | |
