Title: | IDENTIFYING THE IMPORTANCE OF PRE-PROJECT PLANNING IN THE SINGAPORE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY | Authors: | HO JIA WEI | Keywords: | Building Project and Facilities Management Hwang Bon-Gang 2009/2010 PFM Pre-project planning |
Issue Date: | 2-Jun-2010 | Citation: | HO JIA WEI (2010-06-02T03:35:43Z). IDENTIFYING THE IMPORTANCE OF PRE-PROJECT PLANNING IN THE SINGAPORE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Status of Pre-Project Planning (PPP) in Singapore was an unidentified area and this research has investigated the implementation of it by contractor firms based in Singapore. This dissertation aims to identify the importance of PPP by highlighting its impacts to project outcomes. This study comprised of 3 main parts. First, status of PPP in Singapore at both company and project level was identified. Second, perceptions on the deciding factors and barriers in implementing PPP were investigated. Third, impacts of PPP in terms of 5 different specific project outcomes were found out. The main data collection method was through the conduction of surveys. It was reported that the implementation of PPP was approximately 40% which tends to be relatively high considering that most of the projects in this study were of lower cost. This study has proven that even though the scale of project may be small due to smaller tendering limit, PPP can still be implemented. This study has its limitations as it was solely based on the perceptions of local contractor firms. No data from foreign based companies or developers has been used in the result analysis. Though not representative of the population, it is hoped that this dissertation has highlighted the importance of PPP and that findings can be used for further works revolving around this topic. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/220294 |
