This dissertation explains how and why the globalization and post-industrialization in the 1990s have had significant effects on the green spaces of the two mega-cities in the Asian Pacific region – Singapore and Seoul. It compares the two cities’ green space policies, including their development histories, and also examines the four specific cases of urban development projects, which have had significant implications to their urban green spaces and policies. It argues that amid the globalization and post-industrialization the two cities, which had showcased somewhat different outcomes during their developmental state regimes, now increasingly demonstrate similarities in the governance and in the development trajectories of their planning and policy for green spaces.
