Abstract: This paper proposes that streets, as a network, are so pervasive that it has the added advantage over other forms of infrastructural improvements in effecting extensive change within the entire slum. It evaluates the efficiency of using streets in slum-upgrading programmes through the case study of several projects where streets have served as a vehicle of urban renewal in slums and analyses the success and potential of such projects.
