Abstract: This project is part of the Ubin Project initiated by Ministry of National Development, aiming to enhance this island’s natural environment, biodiversity and history. The group master plan recognises the values of Pulau Ubin to Singapore, tapping on the existing resources and strategic island conditions to propose an uniquely ubin with productive landscapes and alternative selective communities. This thesis aims to address the issue of permanent destruction of mangrove lands caused by prawn farmings and the need for assistive mangrove regeneration in Pulau Ubin. It is proposed to be done through the establishment of a mangrove regeneration station, a building for facilitating the works done for the restoration of mangrove forest and biodiversity by participating researchers and public volunteers. However, recognising that mangrove regeneration as a temporary event, this thesis questions the life cycle of the structure and investigates the possibility of the morphing of mangrove regeneration station after fulfilling its original function, into smaller oyster farms to be situated within mangrove and continue to serve the purpose of long term sustainable mangrove management. At the micro level, this thesis explores the potential of building as a living structure, doing more to enhance the surrounding environment and ecology while providing the spaces required to facilitate mangrove regeneration processes, in the low impact ubin ways.
