dc.description.abstractThe main subject of the study in this dissertation is the Populist heritage. That takes a bottom–up approach of preserving heritage to determine the people’s definition of heritage; of what that could connect the social history to present community and what the people has strong aspiration with. Stressing on the history of the social, Populist heritage is concern with places that hold value for long-term cultural coherence of what that share collective memory. The aim of this dissertation is thus to develop a new agenda for selection of buildings satisfying the significant of Populist heritage to preserve the memory of people. The study begins with understanding the theory of the city as a record of the past, relation between the city’s places and people, how experiences are “recorded” and portray and the important of conserving heritage. Thereby discuss the present issue and state influence. The enquiry thus begins by listening. Surveys, face-to-face interview and research of “recorded” voices were conducted in the main study of understanding the people’s perception of heritage. Listen to the people and let the voices define the outcome. The conclusion is Populist heritage provide a critical rethinking of many aspect of conservation practice- choosing of the past that construct the future, time factor, relation between the place and the people and the different perception and recognition by different generation. The whole is result to general criteria of preserving populist heritage; and memory of people.
