dc.description.abstract | The practice of rooftop farming in urbanized areas has become more popular in recent years. In Singapore, rooftop farming has been installed above different private building such as on shopping malls, hospitals and even offices. Although rooftop farming is considered as a form of skyrise greenery, the implementation of rooftop farming is considered a new concept for public buildings such as HDBs’ car parks. In order to gain a better understanding towards the feasibility of rooftop farms in Singapore, particularly in the context of HDBs’ multi-storey car parks, qualitative data such as surveys and interviews are gathered and analysed to better deduce the perceptions of the public as well as the possible challenges with regards to the implementation of the rooftop farms. Based on the survey responses, most of the responders are keen to increase the green spaces in Singapore. From the interview responses, growing crops in Singapore is relatively simple and thus, rooftop farming should be given due consideration locally. This dissertation aims to promote rooftop farming in HDBs’ car parks by affirming the multiple benefits of rooftop farming especially towards food safety and food security. Rooftop farming is an enhancement of rooftop greenery as greater tangible and intangible benefits could be achieved. | |
