dc.description.abstractRework is a prevalent problem in the construction industry and recent research has shown that it can affect the cost and time performance of the construction industry. The driving force behind this study is due to the current lack of research relating rework to the time performance of construction projects. A survey was conducted among 32 companies to determine if rework is one of the major contributors to delays, affecting the time performance of construction projects in Singapore. The impact of rework on construction time performance is also being assessed. In addition, the various sources and factors leading to the causation of rework were identified, allowing further analyses for key measures in reducing rework. The results of this study establish that rework is a leading factor in affecting time performance of construction projects in Singapore and occurrence of rework is relatively high despite the implementation of quality systems in fulfilling statutory requirements. The occurrence of rework is likely to cause a significant impact on project schedule with a mean rating of 3.87 out of 5, indicating a plausible mean change of 24.94% to original project schedule. With an understanding of the factors leading to rework and the impact of rework on time performance in the current Singapore construction industry, rework incidence rate can be lowered, thus improving project time performance.
