|Title:||DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF THE NEW DOWNTOWN OF SINGAPORE||Authors:||CHEN WANXIN||Issue Date:||2004||Citation:||CHEN WANXIN (2004). DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF THE NEW DOWNTOWN OF SINGAPORE. ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||This research aims to formulate a best possible development strategy for the New Downtown. Being the next major project of Singapore, the New Downtown is set to be the Business and Financial Centre. Its success is very important for Singapore's economy. Therefore, its development strategy is worth looking at. To derive the development strategy, case studies are done on overseas examples - London Docklands and Baltimore's Inner Harbour. Study is also done on development strategies that have been adopted by large-scale development projects in Singapore. Based on these two case studies, it is then possible to formulate a strategy for the New Downtown by abstracting and learning from overseas' experiences, and set it towards the Singapore context. Finally, analysis has resulted in a strategy that leans towards more private participation in a public-private co-operation. This strategy is appropriate as it is effective in boosting economic growth, as well as provide for considerations to social wellbeing.||URI:||https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/219491|
