This study introduces a new hot aisle containment using vortex flow to mitigate data centre hot spots and to reduce air-conditioning energy consumption. A similar concept of vortex chimney applied to high-rise data centre shows potential to mitigate urban heat island effect by ejecting the waste heat to high altitude. This study also explores the possibility of using a fan wall cooling system to improve the data centre thermal environment.
