Title: | THE INFLUENCE OF SMART HOME FEATURES ON HDB LIVING ENVIRONMENT | Authors: | SOH LING KHENG | Issue Date: | 2003 | Citation: | SOH LING KHENG (2003). THE INFLUENCE OF SMART HOME FEATURES ON HDB LIVING ENVIRONMENT. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Much attention has been focused on smart services technology over the past few years. However, the impact of smart features on the living environment has received comparatively little research. With the likelihood that future HDB flats will be equipped with smart features, this study therefore empirically investigates the influence of smart home features on the quality of the HDB living environment, focusing first on finding out which smart features have the greatest positive influence on the living environment, and then on the types of smart features desired by the HDB residents. A sample of 300 HDB dwellers was surveyed to obtain their evaluations of the influence of the predetermined smart features on their living environment. The results showed that home safety systems have the greatest positive impact on the quality of the residential environment. In terms of the desirability of the smart systems, it was discovered that features which provide home safety are also among the most popular features. Lastly, it was observed that the age, gender, occupation and marital status of the residents have an influence on their perceptions of smart features on their living environment. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/213317 |
