Abstract: Throughout the historical timeline, the usage of burial items has been an integral part of the funeral ritual for the Chinese. Archaeologists had found evidences of burial items in the tombs of the New Stone Age. These items evolved gradually with the times and by the Song dynasty, most of the people were using paper offerings instead of the usual ceramics and bronze vessels. Having established its roots in China, the Chinese immigrants that had left China for the other Asian countries had brought along this culture and thus allowing its roots to land in those countries and flourish. This paper aims to sort out the evolution of the burial items from the New Stone Age till now when paper offerings became a norm before discussing the development of the burial paper offerings culture in the Chinese communities in mainly 4 countries, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan and the values that binds this culture for its development. In the last section, the results of the survey conducted on the usage of paper offerings among Singaporeans and the future of the trade of crafting paper offerings in Singapore would be discussed.
