Abstract: As total energy consumption is projected to continue its climb, Singapore has embarked on a journey to meet its demand for energy in a more sustainable manner. By utilising the high average annual solar irradiation of approximately 1,580 kWh/m2, Singapore has established a goal to achieve 2 GWp peak of solar energy by 2030 and initiated several photovoltaics (PV) driven initiatives, such as the SolarNova programme. To contribute towards this goal, this paper will study the possibility of deploying PV modules on the rooftop of bus shelters by conducting simulation tests of the solar energy generation per annum for 2 bus shelters. SketchUp Pro 2021 and Skelion 5.2.9 were the primary softwares used to create the 3D models of the bus shelters and its surrounding environment to carry out the simulations. The results of the simulation show that the PV systems installed on the rooftop of the bus shelters modeled had the capacity to be a feasible alternative option for PV deployment in Singapore. Through the simulation, the results are positive for both bus shelters in contributing to the generation of solar energy and providing the required energy for amenities commonly found in bus shelters. Furthermore, the differences in solar irradiation were discussed and further proven that a favourable orientation to generate solar energy throughout the day is a key consideration for higher performance of PV modules.
