ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The tropical climate of Singapore brings about the need to reduce thermal stress on occupants. Natural ventilation is often employed as a sustainable solution to maintain thermal comfort in indoor spaces. However, its effectiveness is limited. This paper investigates the thermal environment of a public school in Singapore, exploring the effects of mechanical ventilation, roof material and room orientation. Thermal comfort parameters were measured in both empty and occupied classrooms and respondents provided their thermal preference and perception in a questionnaire. The analysed results indicated marginal improvements with additional mechanical ventilation while classrooms on the top floor saw significantly higher temperatures. Only 58% of the thermal sensation vote is found to be within the acceptable limits specified by ASHRAE 55, while the majority of the respondents preferred a cooler thermal environment. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/211819 |
