dc.description.abstractHeritage buildings are valuable but also vulnerable which require proper preservation. Digital documentation is a crucial step in heritage preservation that can long-term record and save various types of relevant data. Scan-to-BIM is a recent approach to obtain geometry information using remote sensing techniques such as 3D laser scanning and generating as-built digital representations of heritage buildings. This paper explores fundamental procedures of the methodology and identifies the common problems and potential challenges that might be faced by beginners. Using the NUS Baba House in Singapore as a case study, the basic steps of data collection through 3D laser scanning, data processing and BIM modelling are presented and explained.
