Title: | FU LEI AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CULTURE IN MODERN CHINA | Authors: | CHUAH EE HSUAN KAREN | Keywords: | Fu Lei, translation, modern China, intellectual history, biography, culture | Issue Date: | 29-Apr-2010 | Citation: | CHUAH EE HSUAN KAREN (2010-04-29). FU LEI AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CULTURE IN MODERN CHINA. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | This is a biography of Fu Lei the translator [1908 to 1966]. It discusses his role in the intellectual history of modern China. He is well-known for his translations of French literature but his contribution towards cultural development is little examined. This is a case study of an intellectual response from a translator and cultural critic to ideological trends. It is suggested that because of Fu?s professional ethic there is greater thematic coherence in his work than previously noted. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/20993 |
