Abstract: While the study of aromatic PAHs systems has become a hot research topic in recent years, they are focused on alternant benzenoid rings while examples of their non-alternant counterpart remain limited. One of the more prominent examples of an aromatic, non-alternant hydrocarbon is azulene. Hence, the objective of this thesis is to challenge the synthesis of various azulene containing PAHs systems and explore their fundamental physical properties such as aromaticity, redox amphoterism, diradical characters, optoelectrical properties and electrochemical properties while comparing them to the more traditional benzenoid systems.
