Abstract: Parents are influential in shaping children’s eating habits and preferences through food parenting practices(FPP). This study investigated FPP of parents of preschool-aged children and influencing factors in Singapore. Descriptive quantitative correlational design was used. Parents were recruited from a tertiary public hospital and parenting webpages. Parents above 21 years, who stayed with their preschool-aged child, were eligible. Parents completed the HomeSTEAD, which examined FPP practices, and sociodemographic questionnaire. Stepwise multiple linear regressions were performed to examine the significant factors influencing FPPs. 197 parents participated; 98(49.8%) and 99(50.2%) had normal or low birth weight, respectively, in the index child. The FPP most frequently used were Meal setting, Praise, Family eating and Encouragement. Restriction was least likely to be used. Frequency of home-cooked food, preterm, birth weight, race, employment, child order and BMI-for-age z-score influenced FPP. Healthcare professionals can use this information to assess parental needs when facilitating parents’ positive FPP.
