dc.description.abstract | The emergence of youth and youth film is among the most dramatic stories of contemporary Chinese cinema, yet Chinese local scholars' academic interest on youth film is surprisingly scant. Youth is a historical construct, as a discursive tool, it is particularly revealing on societal changes and problems. This thesis will trace the recent "Youth Film Fever" over a four year span, particularly from 2013 to 2016. Through exploring the narrative perspectives and representations of space in three youth films within this period, namely So Young ( Ifi ffj W #)) ); The Left Ear ( ((&!£)) ) and Soulmate ( X I wish to synthesize the coming of age of Chinese youth with the society, to examine the development of youth and themes of life in current China. This thesis comprises of four chapters: the first being the introduction; the second chapter will look into the reasons that lead to the fever of youth film in contemporary Chinese cinema; the third chapter will analyze the three youth films through their narrative perspectives and space; the fourth chapter will be the concluding chapter. | |
