Statistical energy analysis (SEA) is based on the random excitation and mean energy of the system, which is reliable at high frequency and in broadband. Therefore, the effect of shear theories of beam and plate in SEA has been investigated. It has been shown that Type 2 and 3 waves in shear theories are important for rain-on-the-roof moment excitation. A numerical framework with Chebyshev spectral element and modal decomposition has been implemented to simulate rain-on-the-roof excitation. Using numerical simulations, statistical tests have been performed to understand the effect of boundary condition and aspect ratio of rectangular plates in SEA. It has been shown that their effects can be neglected, when the vibration contains more than seven wavelengths in each direction of the plate. Lastly, the coupling between connected plate and beam structures has been investigated with numerical simulations in mid-high frequency for SEA.
