One of the consequences of urbanization in Singapore is the awareness of the importance of recreation in the daily life of the people. As opportunities for recreation increase, so will the demand for recreational facilities. Recreational facilities are the physical amenities made available by governmental or other agencies to individuals and groups for recreation. The emphasis is on community recreation. Recreational facilities in Singapore are classified under beaches, swimming pools, parks and open spaces, playgrounds and playlots, sports grounds and sports complexes and community centres. The utilization of recreational facilities is discussed with respect to accessibility socio-economic classes and demographic characteristic Relative utilization depends on the location of the facility, its appeal, the awareness of its existence and the ability and willingness to pay towards its utilization.. The fact that certain facilities are more popular than others means that overutilization of the facilities may be a problem. The inadequacy of facilities at present reveals the need for concerted efforts to improve and develop new facilities for as many people as possible. Facilities which allow a very high turnover are encouraged as Singapore has a population of 2,074,000 (1970 Census) on a small area of 5$6.3$ scl- km.
