DETERMINATES OF ELDERLY LIFESTYLE AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THEIR PREFERENCE FOR ELDERLY HOUSING ATTRIBUTES

Abstract

This study examined the lifestyle of older Singaporean with regards to their housing preferences. This paper attempts to analyze the determining factors of elderly lifestyle md their choice of elderly housing in Singapore. The lifestyle study is based on the elderly value and attitude towards society, material, family, etc. The data was analysis using factor analysis and regression. First, the underlying dimensions of Singaporean lifestyle were identified and classified into components using factor reduction. Based on the 18 lifestyle statements, 5 components were extracted. The five components are entrepreneurship, status oriented, family oriented, society oriented and traditional oriented. The 9 attributes were analyzed in the same way. The result was three components, respectively economic conscious, and environment conscious and social conscious group. The components show meaningful patterns along demographic variables. To examine the influence of the demographic factors on each of these components, a multiple regression analysis was conducted The results show that some of he demographic factors have significant influence on the lifestyle and attributes components. Lifestyle also play an important role in influencing housing preference
