dc.description.abstract | This study was conducted with two aims in mind, to outline the future of underground construction and its possible uses in Singapore, with particular focus on retail use. The study is reinforced by utilizing Citylink Mall as a case study, with a questionnaire structured to investigate its success, both as a pedestrian link and a retail mall. To achieve maximum depth in this study, there is a combination of both quantitative and qualitative study, so that both can complement methods can complement one another. The study will first provide readers with an overview to the areas related to this study, then delve deeper by providing a quantitative analysis on Citylink Mall performance as a pedestrian link, followed by a qualitative one which will evaluate its retail feasibility. The study concludes with the fact that Citylink Mall has been quite a success in its own right, both as a pedestrian link mall and a retail mall. In addition, underground retail buildings are generally viewed in a positive light, which could mean that a new form of retail development could revitalise the downtown retail scene. In addition, there are certain new factors that underground link mall developers could look into to ensure greater success for this kind of retail development. | |
