dc.description.abstract | With the rising population of affluent Singaporean, the expectation of standard and quality of life has also increased accordingly. Attention is now turned to the development of the Arts and Culture, which is gaining importance. Currently, work has begun on the 'Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay' and conservation of the 'Asian Civilization Museum'. In 1991, Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) unveiled the concept of the 'Regional Centre' in the Revised Concept Plan. The four areas been singled out for development are Tampines, Woodlands, Jurong and Seletar. Development at Tampines is at the halfway stage, but it is already a success. The Regional Centre aims to provide residential, commercial and entertainment to ease the human and vehicle traffic at Orchard and the Central Area. In the plans of Tampines Regional Centre, a Cultural Centre was proposed. The objective of this study is to determine the feasibility of having the Cultural Centre in the Regional Centre. In this study, market analysis, site and location analysis, feasibility analysis and cost-benefit analysis were used. The results show that the participants for the arts and culture are increasing and can expect more participants in the near foture. With an excellent transportation infrastructure, the location at the regional centre is an ideal one. The promotion of the arts and culture through the cultural centre would be able to improve the standard and quality of living of Singaporeans and will also benefit the nation as a whole. Therefore, the conclusion is that the development of the cultural centre is feasible at Tampines regional centre. | |
