Abstract: Open spaces offer a lot ot opportunities for people to come into contact and to meet each other. There, they can breathe life into their motorised city life and to experience contact. However, it is not difficult to see that in Singapore, the aspects of open spaces have been very much neglected. Though designers recognise the need to include public space, they however, did not take into account, the human factor in planning and design. If open spaces can be studied in greater depths, it is then possible to create the closeness that people once have before they move into the cities. It is also a waste of precious land if open spaces are put there for the sake of design, but they should be given thorough thought and to consider them as important as other buildings in planning townscape.
