dc.description.abstract | Additive manufacturing technology has been used to fabricate various oxide and non-oxide ceramics. Robocasting technique, in particular, allows the fabrication of various structural and functional ceramic materials with geometrically-complex structures as long as the materials can be incorporated into printable slurry with suitable properties. However, until now, robocasting process or any other additive manufacturing technique still suffers from the high solid loading requirement and the brittleness of the printed green body for post-printing handling. This thesis offers different novel fabrication techniques of ceramic shaping. The fabrication techniques proposed in this thesis complement the existing state-of-the-art additive manufacturing techniques, proposing new ways of achieving geometrically-complex structures that are difficult to fabricate via current techniques. Techniques to shape and achieve complex multi-material structures, which are also challenging to fabricate as a singular device, are also proposed. | |
