dc.description.abstract | An Adaptive Token Passing Channel Access Algorithm is proposed in this thesis. This algorithm uses hub polling with two different token passing cycles while maintaining a minimum sized logical ring. Performance measure for this new algorithm is obtained via computer simulation. In Chapter 2, the new adaptive token passing channel access control protocol is explained in detail. The features of this protocol are highlighted. Chapter 3 presents the simulation model and the assumptions used. In Chapter 4, the performance of this new protocol is obtained through the simulation described in Chapter 3. Results are compared with those of the other known protocols. Conditions under which the new algorithm achieves delay and throughput characteristics superior to that of the Standard Token Bus and Modified Token Bus are presented. Chapter 5 presents a simple analysis to compare the performance of this new protocol with the standard token bus. Chapter 6 summarizes the thesis. | |
