The subfamily Camptandriinae, with respect to the latest major revision (Manning & Holthuis, 1981), consisted of 15 genera with 39 species. As a result of this present study, it was found that the subfamily status and its constituent genera and species required clarification and redefinition. In the process, over 100 camptandriine specimens were examined, including 21 types of the original 39 species. As a result, the Camptandriinae is raised to the family level and a complete diagnosis of the family is included herein. Seven new genera, namely, Hypnosella, Moguai, Mineops, Opusia, Nanusia, Stiala and Turbella and a new species, Moguai aloutos, are added to the family. A new genus is also indicated for Paracleistostoma mcneilli. Baruna mangromurphia Harm into & Ng, 1991, is shown to be a junior subjective synonym of B. trigranulum (Dai & Song, 1986), Paracleistostoma tweediei Tan & Humpherys, 1995, is shown to be a junior subjective synonym of Paracleistostoma eriophorum Nobili, 1903, and Paracleistostomafossulum Barnard, 1955, is shown to be not a true camptandriine. This brings the total camptandriine genera to 23 whilst the species number is reduced to 35. Neotypes for Camptandrium sexdentatum Stimpson, 1858, Paratylodiplax algoensis (Barnard, 1954), Paratylodiplax edwardsi (MacLeay, 1838) and Serene/la leachii (Audouin, 1826), and ]cctotypes for Deiratonotus cristatum (de Man, 1895) and Paracleistostoma depressum de Man, 1895, arc designated. A checklist of and keys to the genera and species revised here are provided.
