An exploratory, cross-sectional study was conducted with 15 couples who have been married for twenty years or more, to find out the factors which sustain a long-term marriage. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and the ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale. It was found that there are four more essential factors that maintain marriages - mutual trust, mutual understanding, give and take and communication. The meaning and influence of each factor is discussed in detail.
