Abstract: This thesis examines the relationship between geography, organizational learning and firms¿ product innovation. Prior research emphasized that acquisition of knowledge from external sources is crucial to firms¿ product innovations, which is a central mechanism whereby firms adapt to changing market and technological conditions (Argote et al, 2003; Kogut and Zander, 1992). This thesis explores (1) the heuristic rules followed by firms to search for external knowledge across organizational and geographic boundaries, and (2) the adoption of different learning strategies by firms under different product innovation requirements. The contribution of this thesis lies in filling a number of conceptual and empirical gaps in the literature on organizational learning and innovation.
