The project is the foundation of a low-cost, high-performance distributed real-time system using the power of NT-based networking and standard PC desktop computers. Windows NT based real-time medical application is a software system that offers universal accessibility to distribute, share and process medical images in real-time. The communication program modules exchange the control messages and medical image file between server and workstation using TCP/IP and WinSock. The "CPU_ Usage" program module is designed to acquire the real-time information of the workstation via registry. The medical image program module splits the medical image in (BMP/DIB) format into smaller slices, proportional to CPU usage of workstation. The FTP program module is implemented to download the medical image from server to workstation using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Windows NT based real-time application provides the real-time capabilities, robustness, reliability and can be easily enhanced to fault tolerance and is expandable to Wide Area Network (WAN).
