ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Magnetic resonance imaging provides a powerful tool for examining post-stroke structural and functional changes in the brain. This thesis adopted a network-based approach to understand interactions between brain regions related to motor and cognitive functions following stroke. Chronic subcortical stroke patients had more functional connectivity disruptions and more inefficient brain functional network reconfiguration in higher-order cognitive networks compared to healthy controls. They also presented widespread free-water corrected tissue compartment reduction and iplesional free water increase. Such functional and structural changes were associated with post-stroke motor recovery. In ischemic stroke patients, integrity and degradation of structural covariance networks were associated with cross-sectional and longitudinal cognitive performance, respectively. The brain structural patterns were also associated with specific cognitive profiles. Taken together, this thesis advances knowledge on post-stroke motor recovery via brain functional networks and white matter microstructure and characterizes cognitive performance/decline per brain structural images, which facilitate future prognosis prediction. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/175945 |
