The rapid growth in demand for mobile communication has led into intense research and development efforts towards a new generation of wireless ad hoc networks. It is desirable for such ad hoc wireless systems to support a wide range of services. Adaptive resource management is a key technique for the next-generation ad hoc wireless systems to provide desired services. The focus of this work is in designing schemes for ad hoc networks for achieving efficient utilization of scarce resource available channel bandwidth. In this work, we develop resource management schemes for mobile ad hoc networks focusing on the challenges and inherent aspects of mobile ad hoc networks. In particular, we concentrate on features of ad hoc networks such as shared wireless medium, multihop, node mobility, and time varying channel quality in developing routing, admission control and packet scheduling schemes.
