Globalisation has brought changes to the structure of firms. With the ability to separate processes in the production chain, it has given rise to the international division of labour. Aided by improvements in technology, many firms have shifted some of their production activities to cheaper sites. Johor is one such benefactor of the economic transformation that is occuring in the Asia-Pacific region. This paper addresses the changes in the migration pattens of the elderly in Johor and provides explanations for the changes taking place. It also examines how family structure is affected by globalisation.
