This thesis is about the understanding of religious beliefs and actions. I am interested in the dynamics of these aspects: namely how religions and religious beliefs can be both a function of and an influence on social experiences. My study on the Sai Baba movement is to show how the wider social context (both political and socio-economic) interact with the individuals' beliefs and actions. I hope to highlight, by such an approach, the need for a more sophisticated explanation and understanding of religions and religious beliefs from a micro-macro perspectives.
