Abstract: The method of Le Favre and Vine were used to measure the dipole moments of some aromatic compounds of trifluoromethyl-substituent series in non-polar solvents and results compared with theoretical values. The compounds were investigated using benzene and carbon tetrachloride as solvents, a minor solvent effect was observed. A strong steric effect was found in the compound of 4-chloro-3,5- dinitrobenzotrifluoride, causing a weakening of mesomeric and the electromeric effect, and thus giving a low dipole moment value.
