Abstract: Social Issue Singapore only produces 5% of the food we eat today, as compared to 25% ten years ago. The issue that needs to be dealt with is : to increase the quality and quantity of food production using high tech propagation techniques. At present, research in agricultural products in biotechnology is lagging behind other countries in terms of new technologies and products. Vehicle A biotechnology research centre focussing on agriculture is considered an appropriate vehicle, as tropical countries face the problems of finding ways for extra food production. Role of the Bio-Centre The objective of the biocentre is to enable the transfer of technology from the centre to our neighbouring countries through conferences and seminars. The Centre serves to educate the local farmers on new and safe techniques in crops cultivation. This will enable farmers to produce 25% of certain perishable, high-yield, cash crops that we consume in land-scarce Singapore. Objective To create an appropriate workplace for the lab inhabitants - ( their physical and mental comfort) and a setting for casual exchange of information. To integrate greenhouse spaces and lab working spaces into one building.
