Expected returns from property developments are usually very high, commensurate with the large risks involved as well as the enormous initial capital outlay required. Therefore, those investors who want to be involved in properties but do not have substantial funds or management expertise, have to resort to buying shares in property companies. But which companies' shares should they include in their share portfolio? Which companies' profit can best withstand the adverse impacts of the country's economy and the property market? This study has looked into the financial and share performance of seven listed property companies to see whether their performance followed the macro trend and whether they are robust against such impacts in the 1980's. Prior to the actual analysis, it is essential to have an overview of the economy and the property market in the 80's. Performance of the stock market in the 80’s particularly the property counter will be discussed.
