dc.description.abstractThis thesis seeks to explore the problems of housing for the elderly in Shanghai, urban area, and discusses Shanghaia??s ageing population, social policies, the elderlya??s housing choices as well as the future development. The study of housing choice behavior of the elderly is the main body of this thesis. The first part of the study analyzes the current situation of population and society in China and other countries and areas, both from West and Asia. Further, an analytical framework concerning the elderlya??s housing choice is developed and discussed. Then the Logit Model is employed to estimate the determinants of the housing choice of the elderly based on the data from survey. Based on the results of the regression, the final part discusses the implications of the regression results in terms of the affordability of the elderly, government provision, housing finance, the Chinese pension system as well as social tradition.
