dc.description.abstract | Since the 1990s, the religious scene of Chinese popular religion in Singapore has witnessed a significant rise in reception of a group of underworld gods known colloquially as the Ah Pehs. The fundamental question of why do people worship these Ah Pehs, and in relation, how do people worship them and why is there an attitude change towards the cult call for detailed study. This thesis examines how the reception and reinterpretation of the Ah Peh cult have contributed towards the paradox of hell. | |
