THE OLD AND THE NEW IN THE SINGAPORE THEATRE IN ENGLISH : TEXTS AND CONTEXTS

Abstract

This Exercise attempts to explore the "Old" and the "New", and eventually to come to terms with what constitutes the "Singapore Theatre". Chapter Two deals with changing themes in correspondence with changing times. Chapter Three explores the forms through which the varying themes have been portrayed. One hopes that Chapter Three will put some of the voiced disagreements into perspective so that the conclusion and possibilities for the future Singapore Theatre, provided in Chapter Four, will be made clearer.
