Abstract: This thesis introduces some approaches, sensorless based, for the measurement of the spindle motor drives used in Hard Disk Drives. The motor parameters discussed in this thesis include the Torque constant (or Back-EMF constant) and the Moment of Inertia of the rotation system. Additionally, a new data smoothing algorithm, which is merged as a part of the entire process for inertia measurement, applicable to aperiodic signals is also demonstrated. The simulation results of the data processing algorithm together with the experimental results of every quantity of interest show that the proposed methods are effective in the spindle motor test and analysis.
