(1949-1975). ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | During the years of 1949-1975, under the socialist Chinese literary system, the roles and cultural practices of Chinese intellectuals were greatly affected by the immensely changed cultural policies and political environment. This dissertation launches an in-depth study on the competing expressions, textual strategies, and rhetorical methods which may exist in Feng Zikai’s works and cultural practices in the Maoist era. Moreover, considering the mid-twentieth century was a period when cold war took place and Feng kept close relationships with overseas intellectuals, a transnational perspective is also employed to analyze his cultural activities after 1949. This thesis aims to show the complex relationship between intellectuals’ subjectivity and the socialist Chinse literary system in the mid-20th century. Feng’s works and related cultural practices in the Maoist era in this dissertation are not only regarded as masterpieces of literature, art, and religion but also reflections of a set of values that registered a social episteme. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/168780 |
