Title: | Digital ultra wideband technology for biomedical applications | Authors: | MUHAMMAD CASSIM MAHMUD MUNSHI | Keywords: | UWB, Threshold Setting, Synchronization, Receiver Performance | Issue Date: | 31-Jul-2009 | Citation: | MUHAMMAD CASSIM MAHMUD MUNSHI (2009-07-31). Digital ultra wideband technology for biomedical applications. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | We present a novel low power short range wireless technology termed â Digital Ultra Widebandâ , in which the conventional schemes of correlation receivers are discarded in favour of our voltage-threshold based receiver architecture. We derived the mathematical tools to analyse the performance of such a receiver and then used them to model our receiverâ s statistical behaviour. Algorithms to achieve the primary receiver tasks of synchronization, threshold setting and data detection were proposed, demonstrating the ability of our receiver to meet the analytical performance of the correlation receiver in the AWGN channel, despite consuming much less power than conventional receivers. Implementation proposals were recommended for the receiver in AWGN and multipath fading channels. Also, an entire chapter was devoted to the hardware development and implementation of a wireless ECG monitoring system employing Zigbee technology in order to prove the feasibility of subsequently implementing our Digital Ultra Wideband scheme in such applications. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/16832 |
