In the first part of thesis, a model for obliquely incident wave interacting with a multi-layered permeable breakwater is developed. This model is validated by a multi-domain BEM method as well as several existing solutions in the literature in very good agreements. This validated model can be used for preliminary engineering designs. In the second part of thesis, four applications of water waves interacting with forest/vegetation have been achieved, based on the homogenization theory. Both wavelength solutions and detailed flow solutions in the vicinity of a cylinder are obtained. The model results in these applications are compared with numerical results and laboratory measurements. Good agreements are observed.
