dc.description.abstract | Index decomposition analysis (IDA) has been used widely by researchers, national agencies and international organisations to analyse energy consumption and CO2 emission trends as part of the policy development process. The technique is well-established and methodological issues have largely been resolved. However, recent developments have introduced new challenges to the application of IDA. Not only have the energy systems of countries become more diverse in response to energy security and climate change concerns, policy needs have also evolved and there is now a greater focus on emission reductions and future emission scenarios. To enhance the relevance and usefulness of IDA, the application challenges in energy efficiency and electricity generation are examined in this study. Various approaches are compared and solutions to incorporate the energy sector and renewable energy in the IDA framework are proposed. New approaches are also developed for the analysis of economy-wide energy efficiency and emission scenarios. | |
